A Warning About Flea & Tick Products

Here's an issue that can impact all of us -- fleas and ticks. While getting rid of those little buggers may seem like a snap, it's important to be aware of the health hazards that can come with using some of these products.

I came across Tiny Timmy's website today, and I nearly cried my eyes out after reading his story. When he was rescued, his adopters were told he had a "muscle condition," but in truth, he suffered severe toxicosis from the flea and tick product ingredients.

If you're still not convinced this is a big deal, check out other folks' stories about this. They're just heartbreaking. And, if you're moved to action, here are some ways you can help.

Tiny Timmy is a facebook hero. He and his family are tireless in educating the public about the dangers of these products. My 13 yr old dog had a milder reaction. I medicateed him with benadryl and prednisone before taking him to the ER. We are all grateful to Tiny Timmy for working so hard on htis cause.
The products should be taken off the shelves, and manufacturing shoud stop immediately.

Thanks so much for featuring Tiny Timmy....I have been fortunate enough to meet one of his peeps and I feel like i know TT even though I've never met him. Would you PLEASE Add the link to his PEPSI REFRESH voting page here? He is trying to get funding for a TIMMY MOBILE so the word about these harmful medicines can be spread!http://www.refresheverything.com/timmytouracrossamerica

Thank you so much for spreading the word on the hazards of these products. One of my kitties was the victim of a product this past summer...she would have a small seizure every 15 mins. like clockwork, she didn't eat for 3 days, luckily I had worked in veterinary medicine before and knew what was happening and got her into the vet ASAP, where BooBoo Kittie was given anti seizure meds and IV therapy to rehydrate her, along w/an appetite stimulant. She bounced back in about 4 days. I know from experience that not all kitties are as lucky as BooBoo Kittie. Thank you again for your involvement and education of others on this issue!

I have known about this since 1994, when my own cat Princess had a reaction to an off-the-shelf flea product (she turned out OK -- we caught it at once and immediately washed it off her, with no more adverse effects). I found out that cats and even LARGE dogs were being KILLED by these products. I do NOT know WHY these companies STILL keep making these products! It is MUCH cheaper to take your pet to the vet and apply what the vet gives you and even THEN, stay with your pet at the vet's to make SURE your pet has no bad reaction.

I have know Tiny Timmy for a very long time now, around a year and seeing his progress through that time has given me hope for other such affected kittens. As spokeskitty for the dangers of OTC pet products so many people have been educated already and the news is getting out around the world to prevent this. The more people who acknoweldge this like you, Miss Amanda, the more people will learn and the less kitties will suffer...thankyou!

Thanks for sharing Tiny Tim's story. I've only been following him for a short time, but realize how important his message is for all furbabies. As the responsible humans, we must take that responsibility seriously, and keep the 'kids' safe.

Wow we are so happy that Timmy is still with his family. A couple of years ago we had a experience with over the counter flea product. It was flea drops made by the same company. We have 4 cats so needed to get them some flea treatment. One cat ,Ralph, got a burn from the flea drops. I rushed him to our vet who told us never to use that stuff again that its dangerous. She wished it was removed from all stores, warned us to never ,ever, buy it again. But poor Ralph had this big burn on his neck now from where I put the drops. Several times a day I would put cream ,that our vet gave us, on this burn. I would also wrap ice cubes in a cloth and hold it on this burn.
Every day for weeks I did this for him,,Poor Ralph was in alot of pain. I would hug him while putting on this cream and then the cold compress on it. His fur never grew back in that spot again. It was terrible what he went thur .
We refuse to buy over the counter flea and tick stuff again and have told everyone we know not to buy it either. We only get flea meds from our vet.
